What if, beneath the gaslights and growing skyscrapers of Victorian New York, there was a little tea shop where women could come for magic, secrets, cures, and a little help taking control of their lives?

The Witches of New York takes readers into the strange and atmospheric world of 1880 Manhattan, where two women have created a secret refuge for those who believe in magic.

Adelaide Thom and Eleanor St. Clair run Tea and Sympathy, a shop near Madison Square where they offer potions, palmistry, spiritual guidance, and other services to their mostly female clientele. Then seventeen-year-old Beatrice Dunn arrives from the countryside to respond to an unusual advertisement for a shop girl—one that warns applicants averse to magic not to apply.

...

Beatrice soon discovers that she possesses unusual spiritual gifts of her own. Under Adelaide and Eleanor’s guidance, she begins to understand her abilities, but the magic that makes her special also puts her in danger.

As strange events unfold and Beatrice disappears, Adelaide and Eleanor are forced to confront the darker side of their world, as well as the prejudices and dangers facing women who refuse to stay within society’s boundaries.

Set against a rapidly changing New York filled with spiritualism, technological progress, ambition, and superstition, The Witches of New York blends historical fiction, fantasy, mystery, and a touch of the gothic into a story about women finding power and freedom in an unforgiving world.
